Classification System
The CSJL Library collections are cataloged and classified according to the Library of Congress Classification Scheme. It also follows the generally accepted ideas of what major classes of knowledge are, like Philosophy, Religion, Psychology, Social Sciences, History, etc.
This system combines letters of the alphabet with Arabic numerals. Starting from a base of twenty-six letters, it offers, in theory, 676 subject divisions. This scheme proceeds from general to the particular. Main classes are marked with a single letter and subdivisions are denoted by an added letter.
Usually two letters and four numbers are the limit of the length of class number, however, if the need arises, these letters and numbers may be expanded by the use of decimal letters and numbers.
The Author number is made up of a letter and one, two or three numerals. The general divisions and subdivisions of the LC classification system are as follows:

Card Catalog
The CSJL library system uses a divided dictionary catalog. It means that the catalog is divided into two components: the author/title and the subject catalogs. Each component is arranged alphabetically like a dictionary and follows the ALA filing rules. The subject entries of the subject catalog are all capitalized.
